Another protest against the transfer of property to the Russian Orthodox Church in St. Petersburg

An unauthorized picket took place in St. Petersburg demanding the repeal of the law on the transfer of property to religious organizations.

On February 5, 2017, an unauthorized picket was held on Chernyshevsky Square in St. Petersburg against the transfer of St. Isaac's Cathedral to the Russian Orthodox Church. The action, according to various sources, brought together from 50 to 100 people, it was attended by representatives of the Revolutionary Communist Youth Union, Rot Front, the Libertarian Party, the group “Witnesses of the Foucault Pendulum” and other organizations.

Participants in the action dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the adoption of the decree “On the separation of church from state and school from church” demanded the repeal of the law on the transfer of property to religious organizations. Those gathered held posters: “If you wouldn’t chase… Isaac,” “Chewed forged Orthodox offshore. Privatization of non-core assets”, “We demand to privatize Isaac at the market price!”, “There is no forgiveness for Governor Poltavchenko.” According to the picketers, “creeping clericalization” is happening in the country.
