“I did not specifically provide the chosen vice president and other incomplete information about my contacts with the Russian ambassador. I sincerely apologized to the president and vice president, and they accepted my apologies, ”says Flynn’s letter, a copy of which CNN has.

The message about his resignation appeared after it became known that the US Department of Justice warned the Trump administration in January, that Flynn misled the administration officials regarding his communications with the Russian ambassador and that he was “potentially vulnerable to blackmail from Russia”.

Recall that at the end of January, the former USP Prosecutor Sally Yates informed the White House, which, in her opinion, Flynn “misled the high -ranking representatives of the US administration about the nature of his connections” with the Russian ambassador to the United States Sergei Kislyak, and warned that he was “potentially vulnerable to Russian blackmail”.

At the same time, a senior representative of the Trump administration said that the White House was “in the know” and added: “We worked on this for several weeks.”

On February 11, Trump said that he did not know anything about Flinn's contacts with Kislyak on the issue of anti -Russian sanctions.
