In Primorye, a teacher was sentenced to a suspended sentence for humiliating Russians on a volleyball court.

In Vladivostok, a sentence was passed under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code.

On March 13, 2017, the Frunzensky District Court of Vladivostok delivered a verdict in the case of I., born in 1988, who was charged under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (humiliation of human dignity of a group of persons united on the basis of nationality). The defendant was sentenced to two years' imprisonment with a two-year probationary period. The criminal case was considered in a special order, since I. fully admitted his guilt.

The case came to light in December 2016 when the defendant, an English teacher, was placed under house arrest . He admitted that on the evening of July 11, 2016, while playing volleyball on the sports ground on Naberezhnaya Street in Vladivostok, he “ used phrases and phraseological turns ” that degraded the dignity of Russians.

We believe that the case was initiated wrongfully. It did not follow from the reports of law enforcement agencies that the accused called for any aggressive actions against the Russians or threatened them with violence. The victim stated in the press that I. called the Russians " cattle ", and said about Russian girls that they were all " walkers ". However, humiliation of dignity, from our point of view, should be removed from Art. 282 of the Criminal Code, since it does not pose a serious public danger. In addition, if the teacher’s statements were not made in the presence of numerous visitors to the embankment, but could only be heard by the participants in the squabble who were on the sports ground, they should not be considered public.
