Activists were detained in Moscow for picketing about environmental problems in the North Caucasus

Single pickets in order to draw attention to the environmental problems of the North Caucasus were held in Moscow near the building of the congress park of the Radisson Hotel (Ukraine Hotel), where the VIII International Forum “Ecology” organized by the authorities and led by State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev is taking place today.

Activists Sofya Rusova (Member of the Council of the Environmental Watch for the North Caucasus) and Atsamaz Khadikov from North Ossetia tried to draw attention to the development of nature reserves and the harmful production of the Electrozinc plant in Vladikavkaz.

Journalist Maxim Rumyantsev was present at the event and began asking Sofia Rusova provocative questions.

A verbal altercation arose between Rumyantsev and Rusova. Rumyantsev tried to snatch the poster “No to the construction of ski resorts on the territory of the Caucasus Nature Reserve!”, after which he called the police and wrote a statement that the girl had used violence against him. The provocateur journalist demanded that Rusova be taken to the police station.

Sophia was detained and taken to give an explanation to the Dorogomilovo police station, where an investigator is currently working with the activist. There is no contact with her yet. Atsamaz Khadikov was not detained, but, nevertheless, the activist’s poster “Electrozinc is poisoning the residents of Vladikavkaz” was taken away and torn up!

Environmental activists also intend to write a statement about damage to property, since provocateurs destroyed their posters.

Let us recall that in April last year, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation allowed construction in the Sochi nature reserve, and in the summer Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing the creation of biosphere polygons in nature reserves - territories where capital construction can be carried out and infrastructure can be developed.

Then environmentalists stated that the law was developed with the aim of expanding the existing resort area towards the Caucasus Biosphere Reserve.

The ecologists' guesses were confirmed; soon Gazprom announced its intention to build 4 more mountain resorts on the territory of the reserve.
