The case of calls for separatism against Ilmi Umerov will be considered by the Bakhchisarai district court.
March 22, 2017 it became known that the criminal case against the deputy head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov transferred to the Bakhchisarai District Court of the Republic of Crimea.
Criminal case according to part 2 of Art. 280.1 of the Criminal Code (public calls to violate the territorial integrity RF using the media or the Internet) was initiated in May 2016 after Umerov in March, he performed live on the ATP channel in Ukraine. He was chosen preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave.
We We consider it unlawful to persecute Crimean Tatars for calling for the return of Crimea Ukraine: it is impossible to accuse people of separatism who did not recognize the accession one territory to another. We also note that from the point of view of the international law, the question of the legality of the annexation of Crimea to Russia is not entirely clear, and Crimean Tatars have the right to their point of view in this dispute.
Previously criminal cases under Art. 280.1 of the Criminal Code were initiated against the owner of the ATP TV channel, ex-deputy prime minister of the Crimean government Lenur Islyamov and head of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov . In addition, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea ruled to ban the activities of the Mejlis Crimean Tatar people, recognizing it as an extremist organization, with our point of view is wrong.
On March 27, 2017, lawyer Emil Kurbedinov said that the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea satisfied the presentation of the chairman of the Bakhchisaray court and, due to the fact that Umerov had long held senior positions in the administration of the Bakhchisaray district, and this could affect the interest of judges in the outcome of the process, transferred him case for consideration in the Simferopol District Court.
