Ukhta resident fined for slogan from Mount Athos

The publication of an image with a well-known slogan about Orthodoxy again led to a fine under Art. 20.29 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.

On March 21, 2017, it became known that Ukhtinsky The city court fined a local resident a thousand rubles under Art. 20.29 Administrative Code (mass dissemination of extremist materials).

The reason was that at the end of February 2017 year Ukhtin posted in the public domain on his page in the social network "VKontakte" "an image with an extremist slogan and an image Orthodox symbolism with skulls" .

We are talking about the slogan "Orthodoxy or death", which was banned by the Cheryomushkinsky District Court in 2010 and included in the Federal List of Extremist Materials under number 865. The slogan popular among the aggressive part of the representatives of some Orthodox organizations (for example, the Union of Orthodox Banner Bearers). But historically he belongs to one of the Athos monasteries and is not interpreted as a death wish non-Orthodox, but as a contrast between Orthodoxy and spiritual death: "Either we will be Orthodox, or we will die spiritually." overwhelming most of those who use this slogan in one way or another understand it exactly so, therefore we consider the ban unlawful, and accordingly, we attribute to the number of illegal and persecution for its distribution.

On June 30, 2017, it became known that the decision of the Ukhta City Court came into force after it was approved by the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic on April 26, 2017. In addition, the name of the fined became known: we are talking about Nikolai Postelny, the ataman of the Cossacks-public Ukhta.
