According to the junker, this shows how much Trump is ignorant of the events of European history. In 1991, at the end of the Cold War, the collapse of Yugoslavia led to hostilities between the Serbs, Croats and Bosnian Muslims. The war stopped only after NATO intervention.

According to the junker, it is important to offer other countries in the region the prospect of joining the EU: "If we leave them alone - Bosnia and Herzegovin, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, all these countries - we will again have war."
