Racism and xenophobia. Results of March 2017

In March 2017, we are aware of two victims of right-wing radical attacks in Novosibirsk and Krasnodar. From the beginning of the year in as a result of xenophobic violence, 3 people were killed and at least 9 people were beaten in six regions of the country.

In March, we know about three acts xenophobic-motivated vandalism in three regions of the country. Total since the beginning At least 5 such actions took place in 5 regions.

In addition, on the right-wing Internet there were videos of the "Vigilance Committee" - a small group of far-right, committing attacks on drunken people (mainly "non-Slavic" appearance) and filming their attacks.

Appeals of the RNU continued to spread on the Internet join the ranks of the “militia” of the DPR and LPR.

The rally activity of right-wing radicals in March was small. March 4 in Moscow and St. Petersburg was the "Day of Heroes", traditionally celebrated in memory of those killed in the Argun Gorge of Pskov paratroopers. In Moscow, representatives of the organizing committee of the Nationalist Party and The Russian March movement laid flowers at the monument to paratroopers. IN Petersburg, about 15 activists of the National Democratic Party gathered at the Serafimovsky cemetery, where they laid flowers at the monument to Lieutenant Dmitry Kozhemyakin, who died in Chechnya in 2000.

Participation of nationalists in the protest action March 26, organized by Alexei Navalny, was episodic.

In Moscow, one way or another, they took participation of members of the "New Opposition", as well as V. Maltsev, supporters of the RONA movement, activists of the Nationalist Party and the Nation and Freedom Committee. Unfortunately, estimate the number of supporters of the listed movements who came to the rally seems possible. Among the detainees was Denis Romanov-Russian, who was detained after the action. There were reports of attempts to detain V. Maltsev and M. Galperin, but, according to the activists themselves, they were "beaten off" by the crowd.

IN Petersburg, D. Bobrov, activists of the movement "Russian St. Petersburg", members of the local branch of the Committee "Nation and Freedom" (Dmitry Lyutaev). Formally and D. Bobrov and supporters of D. Garina positioned themselves as "observers" on "Navalny's actions", and not its participants. Also present were the leaders local "walk with the opposition". In Vologda, Sergey Guzhev took part in the action ("Russian Vologda). In Saratov, after the rally, Sergei Okunev (co-host V. Maltsev in the program "Bad News") and several other people. In Krasnodar coordinator Kuban branch of the NDP Miroslav Valkovich was also detained and received 10 days of arrest. Protesters in Khabarovsk clashed with representatives of the NOD, who were organizing a rally "For Stability and order."

For March, we know two sentences against three people for racist violence, in the Lipetsk and Novosibirsk regions. including in Lipetsk was sentenced in a sensational case of attacks and murder motivated by ethnic hatred and arson fonts of the Holy Dormition Lipetsk diocesan monastery. One of defendants received 14 years in prison in a strict regime colony, and the other - 6.5 years.

In total, since the beginning of the year, 3 sentences have been handed down for violent crimes in which the hate motive was recognized by the courts, in 3 regions of the country. In these trials, 5 people were convicted.

For xenophobic vandalism in March (and in total in 2017) 2 sentences were passed in the Altai Territory and the Lipetsk Region, according to which 4 people were convicted.

For xenophobic propaganda in March, 12 sentences against 13 people in 12 regions of the country. Total since the beginning of the year racist and other propaganda was issued at least 34 sentences in which 35 people were convicted in 28 regions countries.

Federal list of extremist materials for the month updated four times (March 2.7, 16 and 30). Items 4031-4073 were included. The list was replenished with various xenophobic material from social networks, videos of Islamist militants, another article by Boris Stomakhin.
