An investigation into the case of nine Tablighi Jamaat supporters has been completed in Tatarstan.

Residents of Tatarstan will be tried for participation in the activities of an extremist organization.

On April 4, 2017, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Republic of Tatarstan announced the completion of the investigation of the criminal case against alleged members of the Tablighi Jamaat association recognized as extremist. Accusation under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code was brought against 29-year-old Mubarakzyan Vafin, 41-year-old Salavat Bayazitov, 44-year-old Ilgiz Zagidullin, 35-year-old Marat Sharifullin, 37-year-old Renat Nasretdinov, 53-year-old Gayar Sudiyarov, 45-year-old Ramil Sultanov, 43-year-old Lenar Ziyatdinov and 28-year-old Khadyatullo Khasanov. The criminal case has been sent to court.

According to investigators, they all joined Tablighi Jamaat in the early 2000s. Knowing about the ban on the association, from 2014 to 2016, the defendants participated in its activities, including recruiting new members and holding meetings of members of the organization, according to the UK. In particular, they held meetings of members of unnamed local religious organizations in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Aznakayev and other settlements in Tatarstan.

On October 20, law enforcement agencies conducted searches at 39 addresses in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Almetievsk, Aznakayev, in the Rybno-Slobodsky, Kukmorsky and Sabinsky regions of Tatarstan and detained seven people.
