A cadet of the Mozhaisky Military Space Academy was arrested in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, the garrison military court took into custody a cadet of the Mozhaisky Military Space Academy (VKA), 19-year-old Vadim Osipov. The military investigation suspects him of assisting terrorism. In May 2017, he was charged with facilitating terrorist activities.
On April 12, 2017, the St. Petersburg Garrison Military Court arrested 19-year-old freshman of the Mozhaisky Military Space Academy Vadim Osipov at the request of the Military Investigation Department (AFU) of the TFR for Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN). The case was initiated under Part 1 of Art. 205.1 of the Criminal Code (assistance to terrorist activities). A student of the VKA was sent to a pre-trial detention center until June 9, 2017.

The case was initiated on April 8 this year. A freshman of the 7th faculty (topographic and geodetic support and cartography) was detained on April 9. Osipov downloaded the book “Russian Cuisine. ABC home terrorism”, which is included in the Federal List of Extremist materials. They also confiscated a plan of the barracks with notes “on how you can capture it by a group of people without weapons with subsequent access to weapon storage room. Four cadets testified against Osipov, who study with the suspect.

The cadet, according to media reports, " allowed himself to make radical statements, including on several Internet forums " after the terrorist attack in the St. Petersburg metro.

On May 15, 2017, Osipov from Krestov's solitary confinement wrote letter to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. It follows from the letter that on April 4, in the classroom at the academy, the teacher found Osipov notebook sheet with a diagram of the barracks and a capture plan. « April 3, in St. Petersburg in the metro there was a terrorist attack. I only talked about him with classmates, who and how could have committed it, why did the special services work poorly and did not prevent his. With the help of a drawn diagram of the barracks, approaches to it and sectors shelling, I wanted to identify shortcomings and weaknesses in its defense , ”said the cadet. According to the cadet, this could be the reason for initiating a case.

In May 2017, the lawyer stated that Osipov refused to be interrogated as a defendant, citing Article 51 of the Constitution.
