Magnitogorsk: sentence passed for publications on social networks

In the Chelyabinsk region, a 19-year-old resident of Magnitogorsk received two and a half years in prison for posting on a social network.
On April 26, 2017, the visiting session of the Privolzhsky District Military Court (a branch in Magnitogorsk) found a resident of the Chelyabinsk region guilty under part 1 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code (public calls to carry out terrorist activities), part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code (public calls to carry out extremist activities), part 1 of article 282 of the Criminal Code (incitement of national hatred or enmity).

The court sentenced a resident of Magnitogorsk to imprisonment for a period of 2 years 6 months in a colony-settlement with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to the placement of information on the Internet for 1 year.

According to investigators, in 2014-2015, a 19-year-old student of one of the Magnitogorsk colleges in social networks published in free access "texts and videos of a terrorist and extremist nature, containing calls for the destruction of citizens and certain groups according to their nationality." The convict was an adherent of the "Right Sector", recognized by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation as an extremist organization. He published calls to join the ranks of this organization. The student also published the symbols of the organizations "UNA-UNSO", "Aidar" and "Azov".
