The Moscow military court sentenced Makhmud Velitov , the imam of the Yardyam mosque in Moscow, to 3 years in a penal colony.
April 28, 2017 Moscow the military court passed a verdict against Mahmud Velitov . Imam of Moscow mosque "Yardyam" the court found guilty under part 1 of Art. 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public justification of terrorism) and sentenced to 3 years in a penal colony.
According to investigators, on September 23, 2013, Imam Velitov in the mosque publicly delivered a speech justifying the activities of Abdullah Gappaev, shot in Kizlyar in 2013 and probably involved in activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir. Psychological-linguistic examination showed that that speech “contains a combination of signs of justifying a terrorist activities".
On October 11, 2018, the Trusovsky District Court of Astrakhan refused to satisfy the petition of M. Velitov to replace the unserved part of the punishment with a fine.
On December 13, 2018, the Astrakhan Regional Court also refused to replace the unserved part of the sentence with a fine.
On February 20, 2019, the Trusovsky District Court of Astrakhan again refused to replace the unserved part of the punishment with a fine.
April 5, 2019 Trusovsky District Court of Astrakhan once again times refused to replace the unserved part of the punishment with a fine.
September 13, 2019 Velitov, having served his sentence, was released from prison.
