© Askonas HoltAt the beginning of the 2018/2019 season, the Latvian conductor Ainars Rubikis will take the post of musical director of the Berlin Comer-Opera.
According to Der Tagesspiegel , the contract was signed for three years with the possibility of extending for the season 2021/2022.
The first setting of the new musical director in the comic-operator will be Shostakovich’s opera “Nose”.
Ainars Rubikis (b. 1978) - a graduate of the Ya. Vitola Latvian Academy, conductor of the Latvian opera (2008–2012), winner of the III International Competition of Gustav Malera conductors in Bamberg (2010).
In 2012–2015, Rubikis was the chief conductor of the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, where, in particular, the musical leadership of the masses of the Mass Leonard Bernstein ( Golden Mask in the nomination “Best Work of the conductor in operetta/musical” and the opera of Wagner Tangyer , who was in the center. A scandal that led to a change in the leadership of the theater and the removal of the performance from the repertoire .
