In the Murmansk region, a criminal case has been opened for mercenarism against a 26-year-old local resident who served in the Azov regiment. In May 2017, in the Murmansk region, a criminal case was initiated against a local resident suspected under Part 3 of Art. 359 of the Criminal Code (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict or hostilities).
According to investigators, in early April 2014, a young man (born in 1991) joined the Azov Battalion. The suspect, “adhering to National Socialist ideas and propagandizing them, being in the ranks of the Azov battalion, was put on allowance, supplied with communications equipment, ammunition, firearms and ammunition, which he still uses for combat operations.” For participation in armed conflicts, he constantly received monetary rewards in foreign currency (US dollars), which in total amounted to more than 920 thousand rubles.
