Former Deputy Minister of Finance Sergei Aleksashenko decided not to return to Russia from the United States after reports of the criminal case instituted against him. He stated this on the air of "Echo of Moscow."
“While I refrain, there is no smoke without fire. You know, if a gun hangs on the stage, then it must shoot in the third act. If the phrase “criminal case” has been uttered against me, then, apparently, someone thinks about it, someone is thinking about it ... Therefore, it is better for me to somehow avoid the danger that I can foresee, ”said Aleksashenko.
On August 23, a law enforcement source informed Interfax that a criminal case was opened against Aleksashenko under an article on the smuggling of cultural values after he was detained at the Moscow Domodedovo airport with Soviet orders prohibited. After the seizure of the orders, Aleksashenko was released and he flew to the United States.
Aleksashenko learned about the initiation of the criminal case from the news. “When it comes to initiating a criminal case, I prefer to communicate through a lawyer. The greatest news is for me that a criminal case has been instituted, although my lawyers do not confirm this, ”said Aleksashenko.
