Racism and xenophobia. Results of August 2017

In August 2017, from racist and neo-Nazi motivated attacks injured at least 19 people in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Belgorod and Oryol regions. Most of the victims these are the participants of the LGBT Pride , which took place on August 12, 2017 in St. Petersburg.

In total since the beginning of the year from racist and far-right ideologically motivated attacks, 4 people died and at least 37 received injured or beaten in 13 regions of the country.

In August, we know only one act vandalism. - In Apatity, Murmansk region, unknown vandals desecrated Buddhist stupa. Since the beginning of the year, we have recorded attacks by motivated xenophobic vandals on at least 29 sites in 20 regions of the country.

In Moscow On August 26, nationalists attended a rally "For Free Internet", which was held Party of People's Freedom (PARNAS), "Protest Moscow", the party "Civil initiative, the Pirate Party, the Libertarian Party, the Democratic Choice” and public organization “RosKomSvoboda” on Sakharov Square. According to observers of the center “Owl”, there were no more than 50 nationalists from the “Party of Nationalists”, the Committee “Nation and freedom "(KNS)," Black bloc”, RONA, the movement “Honor and freedom”, “New Opposition”, “National Revolutionary Vanguard” (NRA). The participants chanted "Cancel 282”, “Cancel 280”, “Freedom for Alexander Belov”, “Freedom for Dmitry Demushkin”. Party secretary spoke from the podium nationalists Andrei Petrovsky, in his speech, he mentioned the oppression of the "indigenous population" and spoke about the case Demushkin. Nationalists from The Black Bloc movement attempted to attack two LGBT activists who were walking by and snatch the flag from the girls. Other protesters stood up for the girls, but in the end the activists were detained by the police.

In August 2017, two sentences were handed down for ideologically motivated violence. On August 25 in Khabarovsk, the court ruled sentence to two girls and their accomplice: “Khabarovsk zhivoderki” were marked not only by bullying animals, but also attacks on LGBT people and the homeless. August 28, 2017 Bryansk Regional Court convicted two Straight Age supporters who killed vocalist of the rock band "Answer to Chamberlain" 46-year-old Alexander Chizhikov because of his drunken state and untidy appearance.

Since the beginning of the year, at least 9 such sentences against 23 people in 8 regions of the country.

In August 2017, one conviction was handed down for xenophobic vandalism. In the Trans-Baikal Territory, a minor was convicted of the fact that in January 2017, with the help of a spray can, he covered various slogans and pictures of several buildings in the city. In total, since the beginning of 2017, we aware of three convictions for xenophobic vandalism against five people in three regions of the country.

For xenophobic statements in August 2017 at least 12 sentences were handed down against 13 people in 9 regions of the country.

In total in 2017 in cases of racist statements, 130 sentences were handed down in 57 regions of the country, in these cases 146 people were convicted.

During the past month, the Federal List extremist materials was updated 5 times, it included paragraphs. 4187-4202. Neo-Nazi materials from the Internet, a book of Tatar nationalist Aidar Halim, videos of Muslim militants.

The item includes "Management center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia” and 395 local organizations, after the decision of the Supreme Court of 20 April. Thus, the Federal List of Extremist Organizations includes 62 paragraph (excluding 27 organizations that are recognized as terrorist), whose activity is prohibited by court order and its continuation is punishable under Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code.
