Residents of the Volgograd region protest against the construction of a mosque in Erzovka

On October 19, 2017, it became known that in the Volgograd region, residents of Erzovka protest against the construction of a mosque.

Advertisements are posted around the city with the words: “To be mosques or No, it depends on you and me."

Elena Samoshina, coordinator for the Southern Federal District of the Union of Mothers of Russia and a resident of Yerzovka, commented on the idea of ​​local authorities to issue a permit for the construction of a mosque to Muslims: “8.5 thousand people live in Yerzovka, of which there are less than 200 persons who can potentially profess Islam. Hence the question, how appropriate is it to build a mosque in Yerzovka? Especially without asking the opinion of local residents. Against the background of disturbing news about the growing influence of extremist groups among Islamic youth, such actions of the authorities raise even more questions .”

Public hearings on the construction of the mosque are scheduled for November 1.
