Russia blocked the adoption of the UN Security Council on the extension of the powers of the UN joint mechanism and the organization to prohibit chemical weapons to investigate chemical attacks in Syria, TASS reports .

In addition to Russia, Bolivia, Kazakhstan and China, voted against a document prepared by the United States. Another 11 states, including Great Britain, the USA and France, voted for the draft resolution.

“The project of the resolution was not adopted due to the negative voice of one of the regular members,” announced the chairman of the Security Council, French Permanent Representative of Francois Delatetr.

The mandate of the joint investigation mechanism (SMR) expires on November 17. By October 26, experts must submit a report on the investigation of the incident using chemicals in Khan-Sheikhun on April 4. However, the American Permanent Representative of Nikki Haley said that the United States intends to achieve the extension of the mandate before the report, RIA Novosti reports .
