Racism and xenophobia. Results of October 2017

In October 2017, as a result of racist and neo-Nazi motivated attacks affected at least 4 people in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In total, since the beginning of the year, according to our data, 4 people died from racist violence and there were 51 people were injured in 15 regions of Russia.

In October, there were at least 2 acts of neo-Nazi vandalism in the Leningrad and Chelyabinsk regions. In total, in 2017 we recorded at least 37 acts of ideologically motivated vandalism in 23 regions countries.

The public activity of nationalists in October was more noticeable, than usual. On October 1, the traditional action "Day of Remembrance of the Victims of ethnocrime". In Moscow, the action, which was carried out by the committee "Nation and Freedom" by Vladimir Basmanov, brought together no more than 20 people. The participants gathered at the metro station "Zhulebino" and went to the place of death of Nikolai Ivanov (an athlete who was killed by a visitor from Chechnya). activists arranged portraits of people who died at the hands of visitors, put flowers and lit candles. The action was attended by the leader of the Moscow branch of the KNS Vladimir Burmistrov, one of the leaders of the Moscow League of the KNS Georgy Shishkov, the head of the "Cherny Block" Vladimir Ratnikov and former member of the banned movement "Russians" Vladimir Ermolaev. For xenophobic statements in October 2017 was at least 19 sentences were handed down against 19 people in 15 regions of the country. Total in 2017 in cases of incitement to hatred and incitement to extremist activity, 169 sentences were handed down against 185 people in 63 regions.

Federal list of extremist materials in October was updated 2 times (October 6 and 19). It has been added pp. 4227 - 4272.
