The court decided to expel from the country the suspect in the attempted arson of the Yeltsin monument in Yekaterinburg

On November 9, 2017, a court in Yekaterinburg found Igor Shchuka, an activist of the Other Russia, who is suspected of attempting to set fire to a monument to Boris Yeltsin, guilty of violating the regime of stay in Russia.

On November 9, 2017, in Yekaterinburg, the court considered an administrative case on violation of the regime of stay on the territory of Russia (part 1.1 of article 18.8 of the Code of Administrative Offenses), initiated against a citizen of Belarus, an activist of the "Other Russia" Igor Shchuka.

Recall that he was detained on the night of November 7, 2017 near the building of the Yeltsin Center for attempting to set fire to the monument to Yeltsin. On the fact of the failed arson, a criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Art. 214 of the Criminal Code (vandalism). It is reported that after the arrest, it turned out that Shchuka had been in Russia illegally since 2015.

The court found him guilty of violating the regime of stay in the Russian Federation, fined him two thousand rubles, and also ordered him to begin the procedure for administrative expulsion.

Igor Shchuka is a well-known NBP and Other Russia activist. He was repeatedly detained by law enforcement agencies for participating in NBP actions. He was arrested in October 2008 for holding a rally at the closing of the Far Eastern International Economic Forum in Khabarovsk. In 2009, Igor Shchuka, together with Tatyana Kharlamova, was convicted under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (incitement of national hatred), part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of an extremist organization) and Art. 319 of the Criminal Code (insulting a government official) to 10 months in prison for distributing an anti-Chinese leaflet at the opening of the Far Eastern International Economic Forum in Khabarovsk.
