Those accused of participating in a banned organization were arrested for two months.
On November 15, 2017, the Kuntsevsky Court of Moscow arrested for two months five alleged members of the Tablighi Jamaat organization banned in Russia: Ali Azhiev, Zhyldyzbek Ismailov, Kunan Turdimatov, Maksat Berdikulov and Ali Zulushev.
They were detained on November 14 on suspicion of participation in the activities of an extremist organization (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code). On the same day, 69 Tablighi Jamaat followers were reportedly detained in Moscow.
The religious association Tablighi Jamaat was banned in Russia in 2009. We regard this ban as unlawful. The movement is engaged in the peaceful propaganda of Islam and has not been seen in any calls for violence, so we consider the persecution of its supporters unjustified.
