The Novokuibyshevsk city court allowed a resident to change the gender on the birth certificate based on the diagnosis of “transsexuality” alone, the portal 63.ru reports on Tuesday, November 28 .
Previously, the citizen was denied under the pretext that his gender had not physically changed: he did not undergo surgery and did not use hormones. However, lawyer Svetlana Chernova managed to convince the judge that this was not necessary. According to the lawyer, the case included the conclusion of the medical board on the presence of a diagnosis of "transsexualism" according to the international classification of diseases and an indication that there were no contraindications to changing documents. The Novokuibyshevsk City Court agreed that this was sufficient.
Transsexuality is a condition in which a person feels like a member of the opposite sex. The syndrome is included in the list of the international classification of diseases, which is compiled by WHO.
