On March 11, 2018, an attack occurred on an activist of the Solidarity movement, Vsevolod Nelaev, in St. Petersburg.
According to Nelaev, the incident occurred when he was standing in a single picket on Anichkov Bridge with a Ukrainian flag and a poster “Freedom for political prisoner Denis Bakholdin! " The attacker got out of his car, approached Nelaev, began shouting threats and demands to stop the picket, and even tried to hit the activist. After that he left. However, after 20 minutes he returned, doused Nelaev with an unknown liquid and began to tear the poster out of his hands. A fight ensued, during which the attacker pulled out a knife. Fortunately, a police squad passing by detained him.
It is not known what exactly was the reason for the attack - the Ukrainian flag or a poster in support of Bakholdin.
Denis Bakholdin is a Russian activist who emigrated to Ukraine at the end of 2014. He was detained in 2017 while trying to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border, and later arrested. Before his departure, Bakholdin repeatedly participated in opposition and anti-war actions, including together with the famous civil activist Ildar Dadin.
