Nikol Pashinyan became the only candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia
The term for nominating candidates for the post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia has ended. The only candidate was opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan.
According to Interfax , in order to be elected, Pashinyan needs to collect 53 votes of members of parliament on May 1. He was nominated by the Yelk faction, which has nine votes in the legislature. The opposition Tsarukyan faction (31 votes) and the Dashnaktsutyun faction (7 votes) said they would vote for Pashinyan.
The faction of the ruling Republican Party has an absolute majority of votes - 58 deputies. The party, led by ex-Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan, said they would not nominate a candidate for the post of head of the new government, but the position on the vote has not yet been reported.
