Twitter management urged users to change their account passwords due to a recently discovered internal error.

“When you set a password for your account, we use technology that masks it so that no one in the company can see it. We recently discovered a bug due to which passwords were stored in an internal file unmasked, ”the company said in a statement.

• At the same time, Twitter emphasized that it had already fixed the vulnerability. The company's internal investigation found no indication that the passwords were stolen by third parties or misused by company employees.
• Reuters, citing a source familiar with the situation, clarifies that due to the error, a “significant” number of passwords became available, and the problem remained unnoticed for several months.

What do I get from this?

After the story with Facebook and Cambridge Analytica, it became clear that even the most important tech giants have problems with the safety of personal data, from which ordinary users are not insured in any way. But this does not negate the need to follow basic security rules - set complex passwords (changing them periodically) and not leave your personal data on unverified resources.
