In Novgorod, an RNU supporter was convicted of anti-Semitic publications on the social network VKontakte.

RNU supporter Kirill Sulyarov was convicted in Veliky Novgorod for anti-Semitic publications on the VKontakte social network.

In May 2018, the Novgorod District Court convicted Kirill Sulyarov, a 45-year-old electronics engineer at one of the Novgorod enterprises, a RNU supporter. He was convicted under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity).

According to the materials of the case, Sulyarov in 2016 posted in free access on his VKontakte page two files "Persecution of Jews against Christians" and "How to recognize a Jew by speeches." According to media reports, one of the materials was illustrated with a photograph of " a man of a characteristic appearance (eyes, a kippah, a Star of David on his neck), holding a severed head of a child in his hand against the backdrop of a burning church ."

Sulyarov wrote a confession. He announced that since about 2012 he has been a member of the Russian National Unity movement.

The conducted socio-humanitarian examination found in the materials " a negative assessment of a group of persons on the basis of nationality, as well as special language means for conveying negative emotional assessments ."

In court, Kirill Sulyarov refused to plead guilty and said that he was "tried for his views, not for his actions." He said that he signed the protocol of confession, as he was "promised that in this case no criminal case would be initiated against him, only an administrative protocol." He drew the attention of the court to the fact that before posting the texts on the social network, "I specifically looked at the website of the Ministry of Justice for a list of prohibited materials. Neither "The Persecution of Jews against Christians" nor "How to recognize a Jew by speeches" was on that list. "

The court sentenced Sulyarov to a 2.5-year suspended sentence with a probationary period of 3 years.
