The SOVA Center has no information about people affected by May 2018 from racist and neo-Nazi motivated attacks. Total, by preliminary data, in the first five months of 2018 from such attacks in Russia killed 3 people and injured at least 5 people in Moscow, Petersburg, Kursk and Moscow regions. (This statistic does not include victims of incidents that occurred in the republics of the North Caucasus and in the Crimea).
In May, only one ideologically motivated attack on the monument - the Victory monument in Yaroslavl was damaged. Total since the beginning 2009, there were at least 7 attacks on buildings and structures in 7 regions of Russia.
In several cities of Russia on May 1, 2018, May Day marches of nationalist organizations were held and movements traditionally called "Russian May Day". Actions took place in St. Petersburg, Bryansk, Kansk, Kaliningrad, Pskov, Saratov, Sevastopol, Sergiev Posad, Syktyvkar, Tula. For the first time in many years in Moscow it was not possible to hold a single noticeable May Day procession nationalists, although several attempts were made to organize actions.
Nationalists took participation in opposition actions. IN In Moscow, supporters of the Association of People's resistance (ANS) led by their leader Dmitry Karasev, activists National Revolutionary Vanguard (NRA), individual members of the Committee "Nation and freedom” (KNS) and the “Black bloc”. Several ANC activists were detained before and during the action. Also, before the start of the action, one of the leaders of the Right Bloc (ex-Party of Nationalists) Dmitry Golikov and leader of the Black Bloc Vladimir Ratnikov.

Nationalists tried to take part and in a concerted action in Moscow in defense of the Internet. On May 13, a single a column of supporters of the KNS, the Black Bloc, the Identitarian movement, the ANC and the NRA. IN as a result, out of about 40 people, 23 were detained. By the evening, they were all released after drawing up on them protocols on an administrative offense under part 5 Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (violation of the established procedure for holding a rally), except NRA activist Lily Osipova, against whom a protocol was drawn up under Part 8 of Art. 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (repeated violation of the established procedure for holding a rally). The court later sentenced her to 140 hours of compulsory work.
SOVA Center is aware of one conviction for racist violence handed down in May 2018. In St. Petersburg, a group of radical ultra-right was convicted for the murder of a native of Uzbekistan, six attacks on migrants, arson of the temple, robbery and robbery. Total since the beginning there were at least 5 convictions for racist violence based on the motive hatred against 28 people in 5 regions of the country.
For xenophobic statements in May 2018 was at least 13 sentences were handed down in 13 regions. 13 people were convicted of them. (The data are given without taking into account those sentences that we clearly consider unlawful). Almost all sentences were handed down for the publication of videos and social media images. And only in one case - in a sentence to a minor in the village of Shchuchye, Kurgan Region - the sentence was handed down for an off-line act, it was about anti-Caucasian inscriptions on the walls of buildings. And only in one sentencing to a RNU supporter in Veliky Novgorod, we can say that we know specific content of "seditious" material. (According to the website of the prosecutor’s office, the convict published two files on the social network “Persecution of Jews against Christians” and “How to recognize a Jew by speeches”, illustrated by the image of “a man characteristic appearance (eyes, kippah, star of David on the neck), holding in the severed head of a child against the backdrop of a burning church”).
Total since the beginning of the year for racist and other far-right statements was not less than 81 sentences, in which 81 people were convicted in 43 regions of the country.
In May, the Federal List of Extremist Materials replenished twice (May 11 and 24) - paragraphs. 4424-4450. List supplemented the materials of the Islamic theologian Said Nursi, the book of the Ukrainian Bendera Mykola Lebed "UPA", video and audio files far right direction. In May, from the Federal List of Extremist five ultra-right videos were excluded from the materials (paragraphs 4216-4220), which were duplicates of materials already included in the list.
