On June 30, 2018 it became known that the International Football Federation (FIFA) fined the Russian Football Union (RFU) for 10 thousand Swiss francs (approximately $10 thousand) for a discriminatory neo-Nazi banner, raised by Russian fans during the game of the Russian national team with Uruguay in Samara June 25th.
The banner that sparked FIFA's claims reportedly contained the number "88" which is encoded neo-Nazi greeting "Heil Hitler!" the letter "H" is in eighth in the Latin alphabet.
