A lawyer who has received a video with torture in the Yaroslavl colony left Russia due to threats

The Public Verdict human rights fund announced the evacuation of lawyer Irina Biryukova after publishing a video with torture in the Yaroslavl colony, the New Gazeta reports . She fears for her life.

Irina was forced to leave Russia the day after the video published the New Gazeta. The Public Verdict in the published statement evaluates the threat of personal reprisal with the lawyer as “more than real”.

In the name of the chairman of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, a lawyer’s statement on providing her and her family of state protection measures was sent.

“From my own sources in the FKU IK-1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Yaroslavl Region, I became aware that a number of employees who are present on the record expressed threats to revenge on me,” the statement said.

We will remind, earlier today it became known that six employees of the Yaroslavl colony No. 1 were detained in the case of the torture of the prisoner Evgeny Makarov.

Video torture was recorded in June 2017 with the help of a DVR, which each employee of the FSIN is obliged to wear. In the video, men in the form for several minutes take turns hitting the prisoner Evgeny Makarov with batons and fists on the legs, and also pour water from a bucket on his head.
