The murder of a 9-year-old girl almost became the reason for mass anti-Gypsy pogroms

On August 2, 2018, about 150-200 gypsies who lived here left the village of Urazovo, Belgorod region, fearing pogroms. The next day, several houses where Roma families had previously lived were set on fire. Departure and arson provoked the detention of one of the Roma on suspicion of rape and the murder of a 9-year-old local girl.

July 30, 2018 in the village of Urazovo, Valuysky district Belgorod region, a 9-year-old girl was raped and strangled. August 1 to on suspicion of committing a murder, a 30-year-old Roma was detained, who later gave confessions.

After the arrest, in the village, where about 150-200 Roma lived, they began see antigypsy sentiments. Messages began to appear on the VKontakte network that in Urazovo On August 2, there were unrest with fights between local residents and gypsies, and that the village administration passed a popular gathering demanding the expulsion of the gypsies. As far as can be seen, none of this was not confirmed, and the messages themselves were based on rumors and stuffing.

However, by August 3, almost all the Roma had left Urazovo, fearing pogroms and clashes with the inhabitants of the village. On the same day unknown two houses belonging to gypsy families were set on fire, and windows were broken in another one (according to other sources, this house was also set on fire).
