14 residents of Bashkortostan are involved in the case of continuing the activities of a terrorist organization.
On August 16, 2018, the owner of a halal products outlet, Almaz Usmanov, was arrested in Ufa. He is involved in a criminal case initiated under Part 2 of Art. 205.5 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of a terrorist organization) in connection with the activities of the banned radical Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir.
We consider it inappropriate to accuse Hizb ut-Tahrir followers of terrorism only on the basis of party activities (holding meetings, reading literature, etc.).
It should be noted that earlier, in February 2017, seven residents of Bashkortostan were arrested on charges of continuing the activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir: Ruslan Zainullin (previously convicted for participation in the activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir), Artem Naumov, Batyr Mukhametov, Ural Abdrakhimov, Ural Galiev, Artur Zaripov and Yaroslav Timofeev. Subsequently, Timur Gadiev, Ruslan Rakhmatullin, Vadim Davletbaev, Mikhail Toptygin ( who had a real sentence for organizing the activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir), Radik Valiakhmetov and Bulat Rakhmanov also became accused in the case. In March 2018, relatives of the accused stated that they were being tortured.
