
The referendum on the renaming of the country under an agreement with Greece failed. According to RIA Novosti, this was stated by the chairman of the State Election Commission of Macedonia Oliver Dercoski.
According to the commission, a little more than 666 thousand people took part in the plebiscite, which amounted to 36.91% of the total number of voters. Of the voters of the 91.46%, Skopier and Athens made the agreement, rejected the contract 6.56%.
“The decision in the referendum was not made, since more than half of the voters registered in the list did not vote,” Dercoska emphasized.
On June seventeen, the Greece government signed an agreement with the Republic of Macedonia, which will decide a long -term dispute about its name and open Skopje path to NATO and the EU: the parties agreed on the renaming of Macedonia to the Republic of North Macedonia.
The referendum was held on Sunday, the question for him was formulated as follows: "Do you support the entry into the EU and NATO with the adoption of an agreement between the Republic of Macedonia and the Greek Republic?"
The question of the adoption of constitutional changes necessary under an agreement with Athens, at any outcome of the referendum, will be submitted to the parliament, where the majority of the Zayev party will be required - 81 out of 120 votes for their adoption. Now the ruling coalition officially has 69 mandates.
