The Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church broke Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople

A regular meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church took place in Minsk. The Synod appointed several new bishops, updated the composition of the Interdepartmental Coordinating Group for Teaching Theology in Universities, and also severed Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

On October 15, 2018, a regular meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church was held in Minsk. Synod appointed several new bishops as administrators of the diocese: for example, bishop Hieromonk Spiridon (Morozov) was elected Bishop and Beloretsky, Bishop of Kasimovsky and Sasovsky - Archpriest. The meeting in Minsk also approved the new composition of the Interdepartmental coordinating group for teaching theology in universities, which included: Met. Hilarion (Alfeev), Met. Mercury (Ivanov), archbishop. Ambrose (Ermakov), bishop. Seraphim (Amelchenkov), archpriest. Maxim Kozlov, archim. Sergius (Akimov), prot. Vladimir Vorobyov, Vladimir Legoyda and D.V. Shmonin.

In addition, the Synod decided to break off Eucharistic communion with by the Patriarchate of Constantinople, which leads to a ban on the clergy from concelebrating with the clergy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and for the laity to participate in all the sacraments this Church.
