In Krasnoyarsk, the penal colony No. 17, Sulim Bitaev, said that in August the guards beat him, tortured him with an electric shocker, threatened to rape and kill him. The Investigative Committee began to verify this information, said the representative of the regional department SK Olga Shamanskaya.
Bitaev informed about the torture to the lawyer Ivan Khoroshev and the Public Verdict human rights fund. After the torture, Bitaev cut his stomach and hands to draw attention to what happened, the human rights activists said. In the prison hospital, he was demanded that he was not beaten and he had no complaints against the colony officers, threatening to "stab haloperidol."
The regional department of the FSIN with reference to the results of the audit stated that information about the torture of Bitaev was not true.
Bitaeva was convicted of terrorism and attempted life of law enforcement officials. In the colony he is considered a “malicious violator of the regime”, he allegedly behaves aggressively and is inclined to provocations.
