On the Netflix channel, the second season of the documentary series “Making A Murderer” was released - you can watch it in English with English or Russian subtitles). The show talks about Stephen Avery, who was most likely not committed by a life -condemned murder. In the new 10-searry season, Avery has a lawyer Caitlin Zellner, who conducts his own investigation and actually proves that her client is innocent. But it seems that it does not change anything.

What happened in the first season (briefly)

In 1985, 23-year-old Stephen Avery of the city of Eminiturus in the state of Wisconsin was sentenced to 32 years in prison for rape and attempted murder. Investigators made many violations: for example, the photobot was not compiled from the words of the victim, but from the photograph of Avery. Avery filed several appeals, achieved new examinations, which showed that the offender was not he, but someone else (besides he had an alibi). Investigators even called from the neighboring district and said that they have a person who admitted this crime. But no one paid attention to this. After 18 years, thanks to the new lawyers and the emergence of the DNA test, Avery was released, and the real rapist, as it turned out, during which time he managed to make two more rape.

In 2003, Avery was released - and filed a lawsuit against the County of the Manite, a former sheriff and a district prosecutor for $ 36 million. And on October 31, 2005, Wisconsin adopted the Ewen Law aimed at reducing the number of unfairly convicted people. But on the same day, a photographer Teresa Holbak disappeared next to the Avery trailer. A few days later, the victim’s car, traces of blood, and in it, DNA EURETHER was found on the landfill. And he was arrested again.

Investigators attracted to the case of Brendan Desser, 16-year-old nephew Avery with a delay in mental development. During the interrogation, he told how Avery held Teresa Holbak, raped her and forced her to do it, cut her throat, then shot her in the head in the garage 11 times and burned her body in the backyard with his nephew (no evidence confirming this).

Lawyers tried to prove that Avery and his nephew were framed. Their main argument was that the case was the same investigators, because of which their client got into prison last time. But both defendants still received life sentences. Then a new lawyer came into business - Caitlin Zellner.

What happened in the second

The second season “Creating a killer” is dedicated, in fact, Caitlin Zellner. In 1984, she defended Larry Euler, sentenced to death for murder. While working on the case, Zelener talked a lot with Euler and wrote down on the recorder for his recognition as another 21 murder, but, at the request of the client, did not reveal them to his death. In 1994, Auler died of AIDS in prison. After that, Zellner opened the list of his victims and decided that from these pores she would only protect the innocent. On the main page of her site , it is written in capital letters "True wins." The specialization of a lawyer is already convicted, mainly for life, or sentenced to death. Thanks to her, 19 innocently convicted were released, for some of them she managed to sue tens of millions of dollars of compensation for moral damage.

At the beginning of the second season, “Creating a killer” Zelener says: “I warn customers many times: if you are guilty, do not hire me. I investigate everything from beginning to end and find the criminal. ”

61-year-old Kaitlin Zellner resembles the heroine of the series “Good Wife” and “Good Struggle” Diane Lokhart-in a suit, beads, with perfect manicure and rings on his fingers, speaks slowly and with the dignity: “Each crime makes sense. And it can be solved. This can be done. You need to understand the victim, understand the nature of the crime, study the smallest details of the crime scene. ”

The lawyer begins to investigate the case again. The investigation says that Stephen Avery saw the murdered Teresa Holbak of the last, - Zelenner proves that this is not so. The data of the cell tower indicate that the girl left her client. The investigation believes that they shot in the garage - but the holes from the bullets look like they had shot outside. Traces of blood in the car are located in such a way that the victim was hit with a hammer, and not shot. And near the ignition lock, a bloody trail is completely similar to a specially painted cotton swab. The investigation claims that Avery kept the holback and found bullets in the garage. But they do not look like they passed through the human skull.

The key witness, another nephew of Stephen Avery and Brendan Bobby’s brother, showed testimony in which he claimed that Teresa Holbak entered Stephen's trailer. But even during the investigation of 2005-2007, a storage of strange search queries and photographs was found on his computer: children's pornography, drowned children, divided and strangled women. Moreover, apparently, Bobby himself Dessie left Aevie a minute after Teresa Holbak. This is the first of the new suspects that appeared during the investigation of Zellner. And far from the last suspect from the Desser family.

Meanwhile, Brendan Dessa also begin to protect two new lawyers. They achieve the abolition of his confession - there are no evidence in his case, except for these testimonies. In addition, the court admits that Dessie could testify from the investigation.

Kaitlin Zellner is so inspired by the fact that all evidence speaks in her favor, that at some point she discusses for a long time with his driver, how spectacular she will go to court. “I will go in the center, and you are on the sides,” she says, and the driver says that this is how Elvis Presley usually walked. “I am a rock star,” the lawyer replies and laughs.

How the second season ends

But prosecutors are worth death and do not allow Desser's testimony. This is repeated several times. Every now and then, investigators who worked in the first case of Stephen Avery pop up. It all ends badly: Avery no longer has the right to appeal, and Brendan Dessa refuses to consider in the US Supreme Court, in the last instance, which one could hope for. Heroes continue to serve a life sentence.

What else to see

“Creating a killer” is the main, but not the only judicial reality show. Even for Netflix itself, the topic of undeservedly convicted is not unique. In 2017, the series “The Confession Tapes” was released on the channel, in seven episodes telling about the seven matters in which the accused gave a confession, and then abandoned them. In some cases, the heroes were released because they were able to prove their innocence - or the investigation found real criminals. But, as in the first season, Making A Murderer, the “The Confession Tapes” is devoted to the shooting of real interrogations. Both the show demonstrate how the technique of interrogations in America, when abusing, easily leads to self -cargoes. And if the accused slandered himself from the very beginning, then that he or his lawyers then do, the jury will not believe him anymore.
