Barnaul Planetarium, whose building was built in 2014 was handed over to the Russian Orthodox Church, no new premises have yet been found. The inhabitants of the city started collection of signatures against the transfer of the building to the diocese.
In early December 2018, residents of Barnaul began collecting signatures on a petition demanding not to transfer to the Russian Orthodox Church the building of the former Exaltation of the Cross Church, in which almost 70 years there is a city planetarium.
The building was handed over to the diocese in 2014. According to agreements, by 2019 the city authorities had to transfer the planetarium to a new building, but no suitable premises have yet been found.
In particular, options were considered for transferring the planetarium to the building of the former cinema "Rodina" or DK "Transmash". However, the cinema is an object cultural heritage of regional importance, where it is impossible to change the layout, nor build a dome. The DK building is in an emergency condition, the repair of which will require 40 million rubles.
Representatives of the diocese expressed their readiness to wait and not insist on the immediate eviction of the planetarium.
