Experts warned the government about a possible failure of the entire communication system in Russia due to the law on autonomous Internet

Experts from the Digital Economy organization sent their feedback to the government on the bill on the autonomous Internet. In their opinion, the measures proposed in the document could lead to a failure of the entire communication system in Russia, reports The Bell , citing a representative of the organization.

As experts note, the bill proposes to provide Roskomnadzor with a complete map of traffic exchange points, thanks to which the regulator will be able, through the providers that have transferred control to it, to block channels to any site.

“The requirement to transfer control of traffic routing from telecom operators to the supervisory agency deprives users of guarantees of the stability of such connections,” experts said.

At the same time, experts emphasize that operators will bear responsibility for the quality of the connection to users. In addition, the installation of additional equipment required for the project will increase the load on their infrastructure.

Experts also pointed out to the government that the Offline Internet Bill creates a critical point in the traffic routing system that could lead to failures of the entire national communications system.

“Currently there is no such point, which means that the proposed model, instead of increasing the reliability of the Russian segment of the Internet, creates a critical vulnerability for it,” experts add.

Among the founders of the Digital Economy organization are the government, Sberbank, Skolkovo, Yandex, Mail.Ru Group, Rostec, Beeline. The Supervisory Board is headed by Presidential Assistant Andrei Belousov. The authors of the bill on autonomous Internet are the head of the Federation Council Committee on State Construction Andrei Klishas, ​​his first deputy Lyudmila Bokova and deputy Andrei Lugovoi.

Previously, the document was criticized by the Communications and IT working group of the Government Expert Council. The authors of the initiative claim that the bill will not require additional budget expenditures. However, experts have calculated that telecom operators will need 134 billion rubles a year for compensation alone.

According to Dozhd , the State Duma wants to postpone consideration of this bill for an indefinite period. However, the head of the Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Leonid Levin denies this. He told TASS that work on the project “is proceeding as usual.”
