Repeated examination did not find signs of extremism in the painting of Vasya Lozhkin "Great Beautiful Russia"

The painting “The Great Beautiful Russia” by the artist Alexei Kudelin, known as Vasya Lozhkin, contains a designation of negative emotions in relation to ethnic groups, but does not allow us to conclude that they are aimed at arousing hatred of a person or group of persons based on the race, nationality, social or religious group. This conclusion was reached by a psychological-linovistic and cultural examination of the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, writes Vedomosti.

On February 19, the court will re -consider the issue of recognizing the picture with extremist material, taking into account the results of the examination.

The experts appointed by the court concluded that the picture represents a generalized and exaggerated image of the world from the point of view of a certain stereotypical consciousness. She demonstrates that nationalism and xenophobia exist in modern Russian society. The work is ambiguous and in the minds of the viewer can function differently, “up to the implementation of opposite meanings”, but negative emotions are not aimed at arousing hatred. The work of art, in principle, does not perform the function of promoting to action, experts explained: “... Act as a result of perception and understanding of the work is an indicator of inadequate“ reading ”of meaning. Tragic incidents, such as, for example, the murder by a student of a trap, after reading the novel by Dostoevsky, demonstrates the absolute inability of the subject to understand the phenomena of culture. In some cases, there is a clinical component. ”

The source of Vedomosti in the prosecutor’s office noted that the fate of the picture is not a fundamental issue for the department - rather, this is an “excess of the contractor”. He recalled that now all cases of recognizing materials from extremist are transferred to the regional level, and prosecutors will agree on each such lawsuit with the federal leadership.

In January 2018, the Office of the Investigative Committee for the Vladimir Region launched a criminal case against the activist of Victoria Lobova on the initiation of hatred or hostility for the repostation of Lozhkin’s picture. It was recognized as an extremist on January 29, 2016 by the Oktyabrsky District Court of Novosibirsk along with three other images.

In February, Kudelin told The Insider that he learned from the media about the appeal of the HRC in defense of his picture. “No one has ever addressed me about my paintings. This whole movement goes past me. The fact that the picture was recognized as extremist, I also found out when someone called me from the newspaper with the question “And you know that something is happening there,” the artist said.

Kudelin also expressed confidence that in the story of the criminal prosecution of opposition activist Victoria Lobova in the Vladimir region, his picture was only an occasion. “We are not children, we understand that this girl is pressed not for reposting in Vkontakte, but because she is an activist, she will pest Putin in Hitler’s costume, then something else, then with a picket, will come out, and my picture is just a reason. It’s not that the dandelion girl said: “Oh, a picture, now I will repent her,” and then, the evil cops burst out and put her in prison. We understand everything perfectly, ”said Kudelin.

The HRC asked to revise the court decision to recognize the painting extremist. “The court did not take into account the satirical, intentionally hyperbolized, popular character of the picture in which they are not promoted, but, on the contrary, are ridiculed by household nationalism and xenophobia,” the refine said in circulation.

The decision to recognize the picture of extremist was canceled in August. The Novosibirsk Regional Court sent the case to the court of first instance for re -consideration.
