The brothers agreed to cooperate with the investigation, after which they were released, noting that they provided information that "changed the trajectory of the investigation."

The police came to the conclusion that the Smollet himself staged an attack. According to some reports, he paid the brothers $ 3.5 thousand, and they rehearsed the attack in advance.
