The ECHR awarded € 5100 compensation to ex-governor Sakhalin, who spent 3 years in a pre-trial detention center

The European Court of Human Rights awarded € 5100 compensation to the former governor of the Sakhalin Region Alexander Khoroshavin for unreasonably long detention before the court. The court’s decision, published on February 21, drew the attention of the Mediazona.

In February 2018, Khoroshavin was sentenced to 13 years in a colony on charges of receiving bribes from businessmen worth 522 million rubles. The detention and arrest took place back in March 2015.

Thus, the ex-governor was in jail two years 11 months and 6 days before the sentence. The protection of Khoroshavina claims that in the pre -trial detention center he suffered a stroke.
