President of Algeria Butflik decided to resign

Algeria President Abdel-Aziz Buteflik will leave the post until the end of his presidential term, which expires on April 28. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the Al-Arabia TV channel.

The presidential administration said that "Buteflik would continue to make important decisions during the transition period."

Earlier, 82-year-old Buteflik announced that he would not be advanced for the fifth presidential term. At the same time, he announced the decision to transfer the elections to a later date, which were originally outlined on April 18, 2019.

Recall that mass protests in Algeria have not subside since the end of February. Manifestants require the overthrow of the ruling regime, as well as the refusal of Butifliks to nominate their candidacy in the upcoming elections. Activists say that Buteflika is very sick and is not able to rule the country. Among the protesters there are many youth, including students of universities and lyceums. The most popular slogans: “There is no fifth term!”, “The republic is not a kingdom!”, “Butiflik, go away!”, “For free and democratic Algeria”.

In early March, the work of public transport was stopped in Algeria, the security forces and equipment for the dispersal of demonstrators were pulled into the city center.
