Residents of Perov and Novogireev held a rally against the construction of the temple

Residents of the Moscow districts of Perovo and Novogireevo held rally against the construction of the temple in the park. Construction protests started in 2014, but in 2018 officials issued a building permit.

On April 6, 2019, the Afghan Park in the southeast of Moscow hosted a rally against the construction of an Orthodox church in memory of fallen Soviet soldiers in Afghanistan. The protesters were residents of Perov and Novogireev, about 300 people.

For the construction of the temple, the bell tower and the Sunday school will require felling of more than 30 trees and 160 shrubs, as well as sanitary felling on territory of more than 4 hectares. Local residents oppose the cutting down of trees and started collecting signatures against construction.

The speakers noted that they were dealing “not with officials, but with bandits” : in 2014, residents clearly spoke out against construction, however, in 2018, officials announced that the temple would still be built. The project has not yet passed the examination, but the construction decision has already issued. Protesters are ready to set up camp in the park and provide round-the-clock duty, as the defenders of the Torfyanka park did.
