In Belgorod, Maxim Klimov filed an application with the prosecutor's office demanding that Metropolitan John (Popov's) statements about the Great Patriotic War be checked for insulting the feelings of believers.
On June 27, 2019, it became known that Maxim Klimov filed an application with the prosecutor’s office demanding to check for insulting the feelings of believers (Article 148 of the Criminal Code) statements about the Great Patriotic war of Metropolitan of Belgorod and Starooskolsky John (in the world - Sergei Popov).
At a memorial evening dedicated to the next anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War, the metropolitan declared that the war "was won by baptized people, and dead unbaptized fighters of the Red Army became victims for godlessness."
“ I believe that Popov S.L. offends millions of soldiers with his statement of the Red Army, who recited the shahada, or who underwent conversion, or who found refuge in the Buddha, either unrelated to any of the creeds, but who participated in hostilities ,” Klimov said in a statement.
M. Klimov asks the prosecutor's office to also pay attention to violations of the law under Art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code (rehabilitation of Nazism).
