Two ex-heads of the Mir mine were arrested due to the 2017 accident

The court in Yakutia arrested two ex-heads of the Mir mine accused of violating safety rules, which is why water and the death of eight employees of Alrosa occurred in the summer of 2017. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the press service of the Investigative Committee.

Former chief of the underground mine "Mir" Alexei Burkser and the former acting The chief engineer of this enterprise Alexander Mann was charged under Part 3 of Art. 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of security rules in conducting mining, resulting in the death of eight people and causing major damage).

The press service said that the defendants in the case were arrested, because "Burkser made active attempts to hide, and Mann-to prevent the investigation."

On the afternoon of August 4, a breakthrough of water occurred on the mine. In total, there were 151 people on the shift, 142 of them were successfully lifted to the surface. Later, another miner was found alive, the remaining eight all this time were listed as missing.

The search and rescue operation lasted three weeks. The work was carried out around the clock. They were attended by 170 experts of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and about 150 employees of Alros. Miners and rescuers spent more than 360 hours underground.

As a result, eight miners remained under the rubble: Alexey Vlasenko, Dmitry Zhukov, Vitaly Kulikov, Dmitry Maryin, Gleb Mironsev, Valentin Misnik, Mikhail Neustroev, Igor Stepanov.
