The editor "Chernivka" accused of financing terrorism was canceled by the extension of the arrest

The Supreme Court of Dagestan canceled the decision of the lower instance to extend the arrest to the editor of the Chernivik newspaper Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, who accused of financing terrorism. This was reported by MBH Media with reference to the lawyer of the Human Rights Group "Agora" Arsen Shabanov.

“There are procedural violations that the trial court admits. If the Supreme Court sees these violations, cancels their decisions and returns to a new consideration so that these violations are eliminated. The preventive measure was not canceled, the court ruling was canceled. Until October 17, the court of first instance should consider, ”Shabanov explained.

He added that the investigator’s request to extend the arrest of Gadzhiev was sent for a new consideration to the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala. Prior to this meeting, the editor will remain under arrest.

In early September, the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala extended the arrest of Gadzhiev for two months, until November 13.

Gadzhiev was charged under an article on financing terrorism. According to the journalist’s colleagues, the charges are absurd and are associated with his professional activities.

The HRC appealed to the Investigative Committee, the Prosecutor General’s Office and to the head of the Republic of Dagestan Vladimir Vasiliev in connection with the open letter of the leadership of the Chernovik newspaper.

The indictment states that Gadzhiev in 2011 entered into a conspiracy with the preacher Israel Akhmednabiev and “other persons” to collect money to finance the “Islamic state” banned in Russia.

According to investigators, until 2019, Gadzhiev published information about the Akhmednabiev charity fund “Ansar” in Chernivka. According to the prosecution, the journalist urged to make donations to the fund, hiding that he was sending the money received to finance terrorists in Syria.

In court, Gadzhiev said that one of the testimonies that had given him - Kemal Tambiev, who was guided in Moscow and also a suspect of financing terrorism, did this under torture. Later, Tambiev himself confirmed this in court.

On October 2, the Chernovika editorial office came with a search and seized computers.
