The prosecutor's office asked for up to 20 years in prison for those involved in the "Yalta Hizb ut-Tahrir case"

At a meeting in the Southern (former North Caucasus) district military court, the prosecutor demanded that the defendants in the Yalta case of Hizb ut-Tahrir be sentenced to terms of 13.5 to 20.5 years in prison. This was reported on his Facebook by the lawyer of the "Crimean Solidarity" Edem Semedlyaev.

Four of them - Emir-Usin Kuku, Vadim Siruk, Arsen Dzhepparov and Refat Alimov - are charged under Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of an organization recognized as terrorist). Muslim Aliyev and Inver Bekirov are charged with organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (part 1 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).

All six were detained in April 2016 in Yalta and then placed in a pre-trial detention center. They were also charged with preparing for a violent seizure of power (Article 278 with the application of Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code). None of them plead guilty.

This is already the second consideration on the merits of the “Yalta case of Hizb ut-Tahrir”, it began on April 4, 2019. In August 2018, the case was returned to the prosecutor's office to re-draw the indictment. The first investigation was completed in the summer of 2017.

• In June 2019, the North Caucasian Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced five Crimean Tatar activists in the Simferopol Hizb ut-Tahrir case to 12 to 17 years in prison.
• Hizb ut-Tahrir is considered a terrorist organization in Russia. Cases of terrorism have been opened in different regions of the country, while members of the cells of the organization are accused and sentenced to various terms in a strict regime colony only on the basis that they met in apartments, read religious literature and recruited new members.
