Mikhail Tsakunov, a participant in the “He is not our king” campaign in St. Petersburg, who was acquitted of using violence against a police officer, filed a claim for 2 million rubles for illegal criminal prosecution. This was reported by the publication MBKH Media with reference to his lawyer Pavel Yasman.

The amount of the two-million dollar claim consists of 5 thousand rubles for each of the 356 days in the pre-trial detention center and another 220 thousand rubles for four and a half months under recognizance not to leave. Thus, Tsakunov demands compensation for his illegal arrest, as well as restriction of freedom. Because of this, he could not visit relatives and get a well-paid job. The claim was filed against the Russian Ministry of Finance; the third party is the Investigative Committee and the city prosecutor's office.

On September 17, the St. Petersburg City Court overturned the sentence of Mikhail Tsakunov and acquitted him of the article on the use of non-life-threatening violence against a police officer (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code) at the “He is not our king” rally on May 5, 2018.
A case was opened against Tsakunov for allegedly knocking out a police officer’s tooth. The examination showed that the policeman’s tooth was “dead,” which means the violence was not dangerous. Tsakunov was released from the pre-trial detention center, and then he was given a fine, from which he was released, since he had already spent a year in the pre-trial detention center.

A participant in the “He is not our king” protest demanded 2 million rubles for illegal criminal prosecution
