The prisoner was given a sentence for promoting terrorism among other convicts.
On December 10, 2019, a court verdict entered into force against a prisoner in one of the colonies of the Tver Region under Part 1 of Art. 205.2 of the Criminal Code (public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism). He was sentenced to four years in a strict regime colony.
According to the FSB of Russia in the Tver region, he " made attempts to form from among the convicts an extremist cell adhering to the ideology of terror ."
Whether the audience for the convict's statements was large, unfortunately, is not known, and we cannot unequivocally assess the legitimacy of his persecution. For more information on the problem of assessing prosecutions for promoting terrorism in places of deprivation of liberty, see here .
It should be noted that in 2019, there were already two reports of similar sentences from the Tver region.
