The Supreme Court approved the sentence of a Hizb ut-Tahrir follower from Kazan

Renat Galimov was sentenced to 14 years of strict regime under Art. 205.5 of the Criminal Code for involvement in the activities of the radical Hizb ut-Tahrir party, which is recognized as terrorist in Russia.

On December 10, 2019, the Collegium for Military Personnel of the Supreme Court of Russia upheld the verdict handed down to Renat Galimov from Kazan on chch. 1, 2 art. 205.5 of the Criminal Code (organization of the activities of a terrorist organization and participation in it). For the continuation of the activities of the radical Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia, the Volga District Military Court on August 26, 2019 sentenced Galimov to 14 years of strict regime.

Galimov was arrested in April 2018 along with 13 other Muslims.

We believe that the persecution of Hizb ut-Tahrir members under "terrorist" articles only on the basis of party activities (holding meetings, reading literature, etc.) is unlawful, since this party was not seen as being involved in terrorism.
