In December 2019, the media reported that in Stavropol, some institutions, without explanation, refuse to let black students in. The prosecutor's office said it would investigate.
On December 11, 2019, the Kavkaz.Realii publication reported that in Stavropol, some local institutions do not allow black students to enter. The situation was reported by a student from Angola, Egidio Nanga, according to whom he and his friends repeatedly could not get into several restaurants and clubs. In his opinion, the reason for the refusal of admission is the color of their skin.
According to the student, he could not get into a bar called Goldy, the Forbs restaurant and the Yes cafe. “It was very funny and insulting at the same time. We stood near the door and thought where to go? Well, if they didn’t let me in once. They didn’t pass face control. But when [they don’t let in] the same people often, it’s strange. If there is money, we will not eat for free. Why is it so dishonest? The city is small, the owners of the establishments know each other. As if they all agreed and decided not to let us in. If there are any reasons: someone behaved incorrectly, fought - explain to us, we will understand. But no one explained anything ," said Ezhidiu. He also said that, according to his friends, students from Africa are not allowed into city institutions more often, and if they are allowed, then only in the company of local residents.
Egidiou posted several posts on Instagram about selective admission to local institutions with the hashtag #say_not_to_racism - "say no to racism" and received a lot of feedback from other black students. After that, he got into trouble. "They called me to the university and said: 'What you are doing on social networks is agitation, extremism.'"
The Kavkaz.Realii correspondent called the establishments named by the student to find out the reasons for such an attitude towards foreigners. In the "Yes" cafe, they said that the students were not allowed in, because. there were no empty seats in the institution; DJ-bar Goldy was informed that in principle they do not let foreigners in, tk. fear in case of problems the intervention of the FSB and "foreign police". The publication did not report a comment from the Forbs restaurant.
After the publication in the media, the prosecutor's office became interested in the situation, which stated that it would initiate an investigation. Sources
